Black Myth Zhong Kui is the highly anticipated second title in the Black Myth series, announced by Game Science on August 20, 2025. Building on the success of Black Myth: Wukong, this single-player action RPG delves into the rich tapestry of ancient Chinese mythology, this time centering on Zhong Kui, the legendary demon-slaying deity.
Unlike its predecessor, where players controlled the monkey protagonist, Black Myth Zhong Kui introduces a fresh narrative and gameplay experience. While still rooted in Chinese folklore, the game aims to challenge the developers with bold new features, innovative world design, and a refined approach that addresses past shortcomings. The project is in its early stages, with Game Science releasing a CG short to mark its inception, as development is still in the conceptual phase.
Set to launch on PC and all mainstream console platforms, Black Myth Zhong Kui promises stunning visuals and intense combat, staying true to the series' action RPG roots. While specific details about the story and gameplay are yet to be revealed, the team is committed to creating an experience that feels familiar to Wukong fans yet surprises with new elements. No release date has been confirmed, but updates can be followed on the official Black Myth website and their rebranded "Black Myth" social media accounts on platforms like YouTube, X, and Facebook.
The first CG teaser trailer for Black Myth Zhong Kui was unveiled on August 19, 2025, during Gamescom Opening Night Live. It features Zhong Kui arriving in a rain-soaked town atop a massive tiger, accompanied by ogres carrying his sword, but contains no gameplay footage due to the game’s early development stage.

No official release date or window has been announced, as the game is in very early development. Game Science has stated that even the story outline is incomplete, with estimates suggesting a release could be three to four years away, potentially around 2028–2029. Updates will be shared on the official website and social media.

The game is planned for PC and all mainstream console platforms, though specific consoles have not been confirmed. Final platform details will be announced closer to release.
While both games share a foundation in Chinese mythology, Black Myth Zhong Kui features a new protagonist, Zhong Kui, a demon-slaying deity, instead of Wukong’s monkey character. It remains a single-player ARPG with the same business model but aims to introduce distinct gameplay features and narrative elements, which are still being explored by the developers.
Game Science has confirmed that the journey of Black Myth: Wukong will continue, hinting at potential DLC or further developments. The focus on Zhong Kui does not mark the end of Wukong’s story.
Official updates will be posted on the Black Myth website and the rebranded “Black Myth” accounts on YouTube, X, Facebook, and other platforms. The developers encourage fans to follow these channels for the latest news.
